Rare Antique Sword Umbrella Whangee bamboo handle. Tan bakelite near metal tip
Looks similar to the the classic John Steed (Patrick McNee) "Whangee" umbrella as seen in "The Avengers" TV Show from the 60's. The character Steed in the classic TV series "The Avengers", was often seen with his Bowler Hat and classic Sword umbrella. An expert has said it is not a Swaine. Appears very similar to a Whangee handled "Fox" umbrella... Appreciate any info experts can provide. To deploy the sword, simply twist the handle and pull. Produces a 15-3/4 4-sided metal spike sharpened to a deadly point. "Whangee" comes from the root of a type of Bamboo, which gains its unique appearance from the constant soil erosion on the sharp gradient, exposing it to the elements. When it is harvested, it is sent to us where it is bleached, boiled and straightened. It is then bent into the handle that is attached to the unique shaft and frame.
An interesting conversation piece that could save your life while keeping you out of the elements. Prepare for wet & dangerous weather! Guy in suit holding umbrella sideways is a file photo I found online which shows how cool you could look! The item "Rare Antique Sword Umbrella Whangee bamboo handle.
